Hey Redsky Fans! Lore master Ken here -- in the past two years since Redsky 5e came out, we’ve seen a lot of changes and trends in the TTRPG community. Trying to keep up with them is an enormous task since this space is filled with so many brilliant and creative folks who lend their talents to the hobby. As a TTRPG hobbyist myself, I started to notice a lot more Starter Kits popping up on shelves.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was skeptical of the starter kit at first. I’ve been playing TTRPGs (or at least watching my dad play them) since I was in diapers and thumbing through source books since I could read. This year alone, I’ve read more TTRPG source books than actual books. I couldn't really see the advantage of a starter kit...until I tried to convince my regular play group to try out a new game.
This group has been running weekly/biweekly for the past 12 years (since I first got my hands on the D&D Next playtest materials), and we had been nearly exclusive with D&D 5e the entire time. Any time we would deviate from D&D 5e, the logistics of sharing a core book until everyone was sold became, well, challenging.
Then I picked up a copy of the Cyberpunk Red Jumpstart kit. Learning to play Cyberpunk Red through the starter kit made it intuitive and easy to adopt for our current campaign. Needless to say, this experience sold me on the need for a Redsky 5e starter kit.
The team and I have been working on this project for the past year or so to bring the best introductory experience to our world possible. We designed a special intro campaign: In The Vault of Panacea, where the players will have the opportunity to solve the mystery of a lost trove of Eldertech hidden in the great midland’s rainforest. A team of up to six premade characters will give players an opportunity to experience our unique sentients and classes through an adventure with several solutions. I’m hoping you all enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it!
But I already know 5e! Why do I need a starter kit?
While Redsky 5e follows the rules you’re all familiar with, there is more to the world of Dema that you won’t find in any other source book.
Five new races/sentients to play, each leaning into their own play styles.
Four New classes, with two classics reimagined.
Our unique "scifi pretending to be fantasy" genre of Redsky has a TON of lore behind it!
Offers a complete experience for our newest module The Vault of Panacea
The starter kit will focus on the unique aspects of Redsky 5e, Eldertech, social encounter, and survival rules.
It’s designed that both the boisterous warrior and silver-tongued diplomat to solve this module.
Contains six characters with a pamphlet explaining how to use them (including tips on roleplaying and how to level these characters up)
Guide on roleplaying the elements and their philosophies
We are still scheduled to go live with fundraising in late August, but if you commit to backing right now, you can grab an extra module, included at no cost!
